Hazel is: Poppy Red

If colors evoke emotion, then Poppy Red is the epitome of holiday cheer, passion and love, festive celebration, and an explosion of pigment. Think hot air balloons with stripes of primary colors including lemon yellow, royal blue, and poppy red. Think elaborate poppy fields in Monet’s masterpieces using the technique of pointillism to express the contrasting reds on a backdrop of cooler tones and a Dutch windmill in the background. Think Christmas holly with berries in poppy red. Think rolling out the (poppy) red carpet to signify royalty or VIP is about to tread upon this blanket of color. That’s a lot of emotion housed in one color. A little goes a long way. Any woman who dares to strut the streets with a bright red pout and/or red heels knows she’s bound to get some lookers, but also that when done elegantly that it can be just the right touch of color to offset otherwise simple and subdued colors. The same rule of thumb can be used in design of spaces, landscaping, wardrobe. A former female boss that I respect had once given me the tidbit of advice and encouragement to consider wearing a bold lipstick, such as a poppy red, tangerine orange, or hot pink, when I was to give a client presentation, a product training, a sales training meeting and so on. It commanded attention and, unbeknown to the audience, caused the eye to look at one’s mouth hopefully gaining more attention span to what was being said. I don’t know if it worked, but I did try it out and got a whole lot of compliments on the poppy reds.

As we’re now in the climax of holiday season, my house (and I’m sure yours, too) is layered in a healthy sprinkling of poppy red. It’s a great color addition in all seasons and an instant solution to brightening up an interior with some cheer. Have a glance at the products in this post as samples of adding a touch of it among other brights or alternatively against a neutral setting. One of my college art teachers in my Color Theory class taught that red was statistically used in restaurant interiors as it can trigger one’s hunger simply by the color association to foods (meat, tomato sauce, etc.). It’s a great touch for dinnerware for multiple reasons, this one of color psychology included. It’s not for nothing that red is used to attract and gain the pursuit of a running bull. If you want to add emotion and adventure to your space or wardrobe, definitely consider Poppy Red.
