Hazel is: Espresso Brown
What’s your preference of hot beverage? Chances are it touches on the color in focus this week: Espresso Brown. During my ten years residing in Manhattan, I always looked forward to strolls through Central Park to watch the ice skaters and sip on rich hot cocoa topped with a bed of fluffy marshmallows. I also loved grabbing a cup of “wicked hot cocoa” that was loaded up with a spicy dose of chili pepper. That same dark chocolate brown is encapsulated in a cup of heavily infused black tea topped with star anise. Yet nothing epitomizes Espresso Brown more than a transparent glass espresso cup filled with a finely ground, perfectly brewed coffee and a subtle froth on top.
When thinking of color palettes that often surround the above mentioned beverages, it’s most often seen with neutrals like marshmallows, froth, whipped cream, and sprinkles of dark chocolate, drizzled caramel syrup, and a dash of cinnamon powder. As with all neutrals - no matter how light of dark - it’s a safe and fun foundation of hues to start building upon with more neutrals and/or pops of color accents. Thinking of coastal vibes in Indonesia and Tunisia, the photos in the banner feature handmade coconut bowls with mother-of-pearl in oyster white and antiqued brass tones, handwoven wool throws with plush pom poms, handcrafted and painted seagrass chargers and platters hung as a wall gallery, and handmade silk tunics with floral artwork and contrasting colors along the stitched silk hems and neckline. These neutrals on neutrals with subtle accents of colors are easy to mimic in interior design of spaces.
