Tunisia
AFRICA
Situated on the Mediterranean Sea in North Africa, Tunisia has a rich heritage of diverse cultural influences with most of the natives conversational or fluent in two or more languages. Tunisia is renowned for its quality craftsmanship, utilization of ancient techniques, and handmade products of all types. The seaside is a striking turquoise, the architecture is often white stucco and azure blue doors and trim with mosaic tiles, the cuisine is colorful and tastefully seasoned with spices, and the people are warm and hospitable with a strong sense of community. A visit to Tunisia must include: 1. indulging in brik, couscous, and the countless other delicious dishes, 2. taking a camel ride along the beach and swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, 3. taking a day trip to Sidi Bou Said and enjoying Tunisian coffee at Café des Délices overlooking the harbor, 4. shopping the souks (open markets) and scooping up some souvenirs, and 5. visiting the Bardo National Musuem, particularly to browse its noteworthy collection of mosaics and sculptures.
