Hazel is: Teal Blue

You catch yourself daydreaming as you’re lounging on the beach with the soundscapes of gentle waves that splatter up onto the shore, the seagulls serenading anyone in their range, the distant propellor airplane that adds a bit of nostalgia as though you are in a movie captured some decades ago. You find yourself gazing into the deep blue waters at the horizon’s expanse where cerulean blue meets aquamarine green and melts into the most stunning jewel-toned Teal Blue. This is, hands-down, my favorite color known to mankind. It is a warm toned blue that also has a soothing quality about it. When I lived in NYC some years ago, I so wanted to surround myself with this color to offset the drab environment of my concrete jungle habitat, that I painted my bedroom wall on which my headboard was positioned in Benjamin Moore Newburg Green and kept the other three walls in a muted neutral. Everything else in the room popped with lots of whites, neutrals, warmer wooden tones, and metallics.

The color palette in focus this week is themed around Teal Blue and paired with the neutrals of white, golden wheat, black. Glance at the photos in this post to envision the possibilities of how to combine the colors. Because the colors are all relatively muted and neutral, it is easy to add in a poppy red-orange or another vibrant color so that it contrasts against the teal blue. The color scheme is a stellar option for a playful music studio, elegant home office, a dramatic powder room, a luxurious bedroom with a spa suite ambience, a laundry or mudroom, among so many other spaces.
