Hazel is: Flamingo Pink

What color palette could better encapsulate Florida than pops of candy-colored pastels against a gradient of neutrals? Think watercolor sunsets over the creamy white sand and distressed wooden pier, the vibrancy and cheer of multi-colored ice cream scoops encased in waffle cones, and manicured landscaping with beds of tropical blooms and cascading bougainvillea framing a background of Mediterranean architecture with white stucco and terracotta roofs.

As a Florida native being born in Fort Walton Beach, I grew up in a sunny world filled with rainbows of color. I have also traveled the whole of Florida at intervals of my life and resided in Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, and Naples where I currently reside. Some years ago, I moved to New York City from Florida and I soon realized that my suitcase was filled with a wardrobe that appeared more like a bag of Skittles as I walked the concrete jungle of neutrals, darks, black on black on black. I still sported the colors in a toned down way, but it was an eye opener for me after years in Florida. To that note, the color palette of any poppy pastel with a healthy range of light to dark neutrals is the perfect marriage of Florida and New York in my opinion.

Placing any retro pastel color in the spotlight against layers of neutrals is sure to achieve a coastal Floridian vibe and to achieve pastelegance (pastel + elegance). Take the soothing, yet playful color combo of Flamingo Pink, Creamy White, and Greige (Grey / Beige), for instance. You can create the same wow factor by simply swapping out the bubblegum pink for any other pastel, such as 1958 Chevy Impala turquoise, key lime pie green, lemon meringue pie yellow, grapefruit orange, hydrangea flower periwinkle blue. Just envision the photos in this post with the pink swapped for another color choice and you get the idea.
