Hazel is: Chartreuse

If ever there is a color that characterizes vibrance and cheer, it is hands-down chartreuse. Yellow-green, in straightforward terminology of the color wheel, has a way of reviving a space much like the addition of fresh floral arrangements and lush plants do. For the minimalist at heart, a touch of this color can be sprinkled in a room by way of an accent pillow or throw, a clear glass vase filled with too-pretty-to-eat granny smith apples, a chartreuse orchid as a sure way to add some glam. For the color liberalist out there, chartreuse is a fun addition if considering all the possibilities of color harmonies. Perhaps one of my faves is chartreuse (yellow-green) and fuchsia (red-violet) as a playful, yet chic color harmony being complementary (opposite) colors on the color wheel. Produce aisles got it goin’ on with their white grapes, red grapes and botanical gardens have it down pat with their green leaves, magenta blossoms. This snapshot of berries that I took on a stroll through Freedom Park in Naples, FL this week sums it up nicely.

Regardless of the season or climate, incorporating a pop of chartreuse can freshen up a wardrobe instantaneously from a spring-summer linen scarf to a cozy wool shawl to bundle in cooler temps. Another of my absolute faves when it comes to color harmonies of yellow-green is monochromatic by simply taking a single color (hence the term “mono” or single and “chromatic” or color) and adding black to get its “shade” and adding white to get its “tint.” I envision a fashionable twist of safari attire with its supercool color palette of black-brown, deep army green, chartreuse, and creamy beige. It’s also a trendy choice for interior design.
